Jurgis Kairys

Jurgis Kairys is not just a name in the world of aviation — he’s a legend whose contributions to aerobatics have set the standard for sport flying. A Lithuanian pilot with numerous world records, he’s often called a “pilot’s pilot.” Jurgis captivates audiences around the globe with his remarkable skills, signature maneuvers, and deep passion for flight, making him one of the most respected and recognized aerobatic pilots in the world.

Jurgis began competing in aerobatic championships in the 1980s and has earned an impressive collection of awards and medals, including multiple titles at the World Aerobatic Championships. He is also a multi-time Overall Champion of the World Grand Prix of Aerobatics and has invented several signature maneuvers — most notably the “Kairys Wheel.” Remarkably, he was the first pilot ever to perform the “Cobra” maneuver, where a fixed-wing aircraft hovers in the air like a helicopter.

Pilot in 80s

As an aeronautical engineer, Jurgis contributed to the development of several Sukhoi aerobatic aircraft, including his own design, the “Juka.” Today, he performs in the Su-31 — a rare and distinctive sport aircraft. One of his most jaw-dropping feats? Flying inverted under a seven-meter-high bridge in Kaunas — a stunt he later repeated under every bridge in Vilnius, Lithuania!
